Travel to Medellin
Here’s a set my favorite places after visiting Medellin
Hopefully you re interested in atleast going to stop by medellin on youur trip but if not I hope this post gives you the good idea to stop by and try some of the ammzing excuusions and dining that the city has to offer.
First of all, what's for lunch?
Breakfast places in Medellín are often local cafes or brunch places in El Poblado, otherwise known as tourist central. Although the area is nice and walkable, it really is the most expensive and tourist-run area, so food will often be overrated and overpriced.
However, these are some of the best spots I've even had to return to:
Seré
I think about the French toast all the time. There are several locations, and they offer the same things, of course. The popular items on the menu are popular for a reason, but their coffee is pretty good. I suggest trying everything your eyes ogle because you really can't go wrong. My favorites were a good coffee and the French toast, but really, this one is a 10/10.
Asados Doña Rosa in the Premium Plaza
Taqueria Cuernavaca Centro
A cute taco shop after walking the street and eating. Definitely a place that I would return to for some quality tacos and some pictures. Very cute and very good.
Malanga del Tropico
I went here with my family. It was exactly what you would want out of a nice restaurant: very good food with Pacific coast cuisine and Afro-indigenous food specialties. It was definitely a good pick after getting our nails done, and the music and vibes were absolutely amazing.
El Cafe de Otra Parte
Places to Stay
In my opinion, there are only three places to stay if you are a traveler who wants to do excursions during the day and stay out of the way for the best city views.
For larger groups, I would recommend getting an Airbnb in Bello.
I traveled with a group of five, and we stayed in Bello because the Airbnb for that amount was the best, and you can see the whole city from the views in Bello. Also, it is very easy to navigate with the metro because it is at the end of the metro line, but it is just out of the city enough to enjoy the city of Medellin without the tourist traps and quick excursion amusement.
La Calendaria
I specifically stayed in an Airbnb in Bombona, which was nice. It was a bit hard to get to because of the hills, but it was a very safe and comforting area with a good amount of things to do. You are closer to the different offerings in the city, and it is again out of the center, so it's cheaper but still easy to get where you need to go.
El Poblado
I know that I give this part of town a bit of hate for being as touristy as it is, but if you are staying in a hotel for the weekend, it's not too bad of an option. Be careful of the overpriced goods. I know conversion rates can seem like an okay deal, but the niceties of being in a touristy area are that the hotels and the area in general are nice to walk around. But you will want to take a little Uber to the city center and explore.
Things I did and places I will continue to go:
Amatsu Spa
A great spa and a great price! Remember to bring cash, and walk-ins are welcome. They are also super nice and have done a great job every time I've gone.
H&L Amazonita
I will regret it if I gatekept this gem.
I absolutely love this crystal shop. If you like crystals, want to buy a gift, or grab some gems to take back home, they have the most quality gems I've come across in my days of crystal purchases. I also bought my moldavite from here. The shop is in a great place if you are shopping for anything else.
Guatapé
Most of the excursions to Guatapé leave in the morning, and yes, you should go with a group on a bus because they make it a food tour. It is also super interesting and a nice ride to the city of Guatapé to see the views, get in a boat, and climb a ridiculously sized rock.
There are plenty of other things, but these are some of my absolute favorites that, in my opinion, are a bit niche and also valid recommendations if you are trying to figure out where to stay. More places and itineraries to come, but for now, bye! 👋
